Improving classroom thermal comfort of educational buildings: Case of Kantipur City College

Well-designed and thermally comfortable learning spaces contribute to better academic performance, enhanced concentration, improved productivity of students. Thermal comfort is often one the most overlooked design parameters while constructing educational buildings in Nepal. The Nepalese government has yet develop guidelines or regulations which ensures optimum indoor thermal comfort. Due this, classrooms either lack insulation, have poor ventilation, overall performance. This study illustrates how use passive measures such as mass, glazing can help improving students classrooms. Kantipur City College, an engineering college Kathmandu was selected a case evaluate environment field also determined existing levels based on their sensations preferences. Design Builder Software used carry out simulation analysis impacts strategies when applied base classroom model. Field survey showed that temperatures were range 27-32 °C, felt quite uncomfortable during lesson hours.
